The project began on April 3, 2000. Millions of children across the world are never given the opportunity to receive a proper education. India is no different. Often these children are forced to work 8-12 hours a day to help support their families. They lack the love, care, and affection required by all children. Because of this environment, many of these kids have little awareness or motivation to start school. And even if they wish to join school, the family is unable to afford it. With the help of Share and Care
Foundation, USA Manav Sadhna has started a Non Formal Education
project. The goal is to provide education and some alternative earning
skill to 200 kids in three years. Two centers have been created, one in
Gandhi Ashram, and one at the Ramapir No Terkra slum.
It is
impossible for some of the working children from distant neighbourhoods to
attend our Non Formal School at Ramapir No Takro or Gandhi Ashram.
Therefore, we have started a unique experiment of providing Non Formal
Education and Nutrition at the spot where these children work. The
above three places are busy with businessmen and officegoers. Our boot
polish children are always wandering in the area for polishing shoes.
Normally they make any where from Rs. 20 to 50 in 6 to 10 hours. Most of
them have no choice. They are compelled to help the family to survive. The project will involve teachers, social workers, parents, and various field trips. Older kids from age 16-21 will be encouraged an provided basic training in carpentry, electrical wiring, plumbing, and automotive, along with literature. |

Tuition Children find it difficult to cope with studies alongwith working. Manav Sadhna offers free tuition’s daily at Gandhi Ashram. These are available in all subjects, and the children can be seen every day, along the banks of the Sabarmati, engaged in lessons Blind School Children with a handicap or disability suffer even more. Being blind and living in a village can be a nightmare for a child. From parent neglect to being shunned by society, these kids live in a dark and lonely world. Therefore, Manav Sadhna has adopted a Blind School in the capital Gandhinagar, which provides residence and schooling for 34 of these very special children. No grant is available from the Indian Government, thus Manav Sadhna is having to foot all the expenses for this project. Library It is so rightly said that '' Empty vessels make the most noise'' This to inculcate the knowledge and reading habit among the children Manav Sadhna runs a library stocked with over 3000 books and a video cassette player. The Poorest of 250 children of society are enjoying the facilities. |
