NUTRITION CENTERS

Manav Sadhna is operating 13 balwadis and nutrition centers. These centers provide slum children from the ages of 3-4 a nutritious meal and primary education. They act as a kindergarten with timings from 12pm-3pm, six days a week. Furthermore, these children are ensured admission into the 1st Grade, a major step considering the high illiteracy rates and lack of schooling in the slum communities.

Manav Sadhna identifies old buildings, small temples, and other sites that are easily and cheaply converted into a nutrition center; consisting of a fan, games and toys, food storage, and colorful wall charts. Population is such a problem in India, that before the centers are complete, MS has signed up 35 new kids, with many others being left behind.

The cost of running these small, but efficient centers is surprising cheap. A one-time renovation charge runs roughly $150 US Dollars, while a yearly budget would compose $500-600 US Dollars. This includes rich protein and carbohydrate food, rent, and salary for a teacher.
